Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK Review and User Impressions

Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK Review and User Impressions

Last month, I acquired the Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK. While this isn't a traditional review, I'd love to share my experiences and user impressions with this laptop. Every user's experience can be subjective, and mine might vary from others. Let's delve in.

Unboxing and First Look:

The laptop arrives in a standard cardboard-colored box. Key details and laptop specifications can be found on a side sticker. The package contents include the laptop itself, a charger, a list of service center contacts, and basic usage instructions.

Design and Build:

Lenovo strikes a balance between the fierce aesthetics of gaming rigs and the simplicity of everyday laptops. The matte finish feels premium, but it's a fingerprint magnet, which was a letdown. I appreciated the firm build and the non-irritable surface during extended use.

Ports and Connectivity:

The laptop features several ports on either side. A significant design flaw is the proximity of the charging port to the USB, risking potential damage. Lenovo users will recognize the Novo button, an alternative way to access the BIOS.

Display and Keyboard:

The FullHD IPS display is stellar with minimal glare and wide viewing angles. The keyboard boasts backlighting and includes a full numeric keypad. Although useful, its design might be challenging for desktop keyboard users.

Performance:

The laptop performs adequately, handling games like NeedForSpeed and DeusEx smoothly. However, the HDD dampens the overall speed, hinting at the need for an SSD upgrade. Note: It's selective about supported m2 SSD models.

WiFi and Connectivity Issues:

Out-of-the-box, the WiFi adapter had issues detecting 5GHz networks. After some tinkering and driver updates, the issue was resolved. Detailed instructions are available for both Windows and Ubuntu.

Battery Life:

With continuous usage, the battery lasted around three hours. Performance-driven tasks like gaming might reduce this further.

Pros:

  • Premium build feel
  • Exceptional display quality
  • Efficient keyboard with backlighting
  • Adequate performance (with an SSD recommendation)
  • Decent battery life for its class
  • Efficient cooling

Cons:

  • Prone to smudges
  • Loud cooling fans under heavy load
  • Charging port placement issue
  • Mediocre touchpad button design
  • Built-in microphone quality
  • Initial WiFi connectivity issues
  • Slight wobble in the lid's frame
