Configuring Plex

In the last article I showed how you can install PlexMediaServer on Ubuntu. Today I will show you how to configure it.

Enter the address in the browser - 127.0.0.1:32400/web or, if you are connecting from a remote computer, you need to change 127.0.0.1 to the server address. A window with the license agreement opens, we press it.

In the next window, enter the friendly server name.

The next step, adding a library, we weill add them later.

At the last step, choose whether or not to send usage data, click OK

The main server window opens. In it we press the button of settings

Switch to the server tab.

In the basic settings, you need to enter your Plex username and password, you need to register on the site plex.tv, this is necessary if you plan to use the server from the Internet, or from other devices on which you will put the Plex application (for example, TV).

In the remote access tab, you can change the server port that it will listen to when accessing it from outside your local network.

In the Agents tab, you do not need to change anything, just make sure that the Kinopoisk agent is installed (if you had installed it, of course).

In the library, you can set the library update period, and also specify to the server that it should update it when changing files in the library folder.

In the transcoding, you can specify the quality of transcoding, if you have limited resources on the server, then you need to select a fast one, if there are a lot of resources, you can leave it by default or choose high quality.

In the languages, choose the language that will be used by default, as well as choose in which case the subtitles should be automatically switched on.

In the scheduled tasks tab, you can configure backup, optimization and updating of the database.

In the tab you can additionally configure the downloading of trailers. I turned this thing off, because I'm not interested on this.

Now go to setting up the web. In the basic settings, you can turn on theme music and unseen icons.

n the player you can choose the video quality, depending on the characteristics of your local network and the speed of Internet access. Here it is better to leave the HTML5 player on.

Now go back to the main page of the server and click the button to add the library.

Let's add a library with movies. Enter the name, select the language and click the add folder button

Enter the path to the movie folder, do not forget that the user plex should have access to it. Click on add a library.

Then click edit the library

We go into an extra, choose Agnet - KinoPoiskRu, click save, after a while the library will be updated and the data will be removed from the movie search, you can speed up this process by going into the properties of the file (...) and click the update button.

Now add a library with serials. Click + on the opposite LIBRARIES. Enter the name, choose the language.

Go to the tab to add a folder and select the folder with the series. We want to add to the library.

Data about the episodes will be downloaded automatically provided that the correct folder hierarchy of the series (the root folder should contain the title of the tv show, I have it mr.robot, it should contain folders containing season numbers, for example season1, it should contain files, In the title should be specified number of the series of about this format - the name of the series. S01E01)

When adding tv shows or movies to the folders that they selected before, they will have to appear automatically in the web interface.

This completes the Plex configuration, you can download the application for smart tv, or connect to the server with the built-in DLNA client and watch movies.

UPD: I've found that on LG TVs, there cannot be plex app on marketplace, and TV cannot connect to PLEX via DLNA. There is an article describes how to fix the problem.
